Help with Cathedral Ceiling and Ceiling fan question...?
Our contemporary house has a cathedral ceiling over the main living space and a huge ceiling fan. When we bought the home, the fan is set for the winter direction, pulling the air up. There does not appear to be a switch to change the direction to push the air down nor is there a remote control. Does anyone know how to change the direction if there is no visible switch or remote. Or should we leave as is, and put the fan on high. which would not create a breeze but would circulate the air. We have the central air on, and am debating whether the fan could help my electric bills or make it worse by pushing the warm air that has floated to the ceiling bk down again???? Thank you for your advice.
The least likely possibility is you have reversing blades. Years ago they were available on Hunter Fans. If that is the case, put one hand on the fan motor housing opposite a blade. Put the other hand on the end of a blade and push in towards the motor and rotate clockwise till it stops.
Be sure to do ALL of the blades. The first time I changed direction I missed one. The fan took to wobbling uncontrollably! Embarrassed me to no end!
The most likely case is the reverse switch is located on top of the motor housing as opposed to the side of the light kit box on the bottom of the fan.
There is only a very slim chance that the reversing switch is bad.
If it turns out you have a very old Hunter Fan you will want to check the oil reservoir and it surely will need more oil. Instructions for doing that would be the subject of another question. Not because I'm lazy, but rather so that more people would see and learn.
