Making barn door bigger?
I'm asking this in horses because I'm hoping someone has gone through this.
We are buying a property that has two human sized doors and one slightly bigger door that might squeeze a small horse through but I have a horse who is very spooky getting into small doors like that.
How hard would it be to make the door bigger? What are my options? I guess I could tear downt he door completely and put a much larger door on, but how much would this cost me? I could probably get my hubby to do most of the labour, just not any framing.
Do you have the surplus construction sales in your area? You can get material there for your new door alot cheaper.
If your existing doors have supports (not studs) on either side, I would make a new door for your horses. Look at where you want your yards, hitching rails, where you are storing your tack, etc. so it is handy for you.
If a new door isn't an option, I would get someone out there who knows about framing. They can look at the structure and give you your best advice.
The person who said if you are installing a Sliding Door, put the stops in the rail. Right now, one of the stops worked loose on my hay shed so the door is hanging by one set of rollers. I have to put the boyfriend in our skid loader bucket (unsafe, I know) so he can lift it back on. Not a fun project!
