Why wont my serptine belt stay on after alternator change?
I had my alternator replaced on my 2000 1.8L Turbo VW Bettle and now since that has happened my serpentine belt has fallen off 3 times. This last time that I put it back on I noticed that the roller at the bottom of the spring loaded tension setter is not in line with the rest of the pulley track. It sets to the inside of the track and is wearing a ridge on the inside of that roller. I was wondering if when they put my tension setter back on after changing the alternator if they for got to put a piece back in like a spacer. If not, what would be an explanation for the tension setter roller to be off track.
your belt tensioner should be bolted and torqued properly, generally there's no spacer that i know of that holds it on the side of the block but who knows.
it is possible they didn't tighten all the way and the belt is riding off the pulley on it enough to throw it. Have them take it back off and make sure it is properly aligned.
Torsion Springs For Garage Doors
Are automatic garage doors safe? Properly installed garage doors are safe until tampered with. Nowadays, more are turning to independent solutions, learning how to maintain home appliances while saving. You should remember, however, that a garage door is the largest, heaviest home appliance, and you should take caution. Thank you for reading about garage door panels and garage doors.
Costly mistakes that can be prevented are people fiddling with springs, children playing with remote control devices, and aging garage doors. Two directives make up the majority of garage door maintenance lore. Do not fiddle with the springs, and do not delay any needed repairs.
These springs come in two categories. The spring that stretch upon closing the door to act as a cushion and tightens upon opening to lighten the load is called an extension spring. Much like a window shade, a torsion spring is wrapped around in order to buttress the bulk of the door.
It can be hazardous to mess around with either spring type. However, torsion springs may be more dangerous to home handymen, because only a special tool can be used to fit them. The result of using an alternative tool to tighten the spring is catastrophe and futility. If you like this garage doors article check out roller doors for more top quality information.
Something else few homeowners recognize is the danger of tweaking the spring brackets on the garage frame, which are also under pressure. To dawdle in getting needed repairs is disallowed by the second rule. Unaided repairs are discouraged, as hiring a professional is much more profitable.
An incorrectly installed door is a hazard to the whole family, which can result in high repair costs. How long it takes the door to switch course from impact indicates how well the door was mounted. At most two seconds should pass between blow and reversal.
If it takes longer than that, check for common problems, such as worn tracks and broken springs. Wheels should rotate smoothly, and tracks should not be crooked or floppy. Lubrication on the bearings is a good idea when wheels tend to catch.
For rollers, springs, hardware pivot points, and openers, continuous lubrication is necessary. Paint the door regularly, to protect it from damage, not the hardware. Hardware is designed for motion, and paint only hinders movement.
To put triggering devices for automatic door openers in places children can reach is a grave mistake. Buttons in the garage should be installed where they will be difficult, if not impossible for children to reach. These suggestions will ensure a longer, safer life for your door.
